Performing arts for everyone.
From age 2 to adult.

The Academie

A&L Academie de Danse is our part-time performing arts studio, based in Bowral. Students attend classes here alongside their regular schooling — it is a studio, not a school. Classes run across the week, including Saturdays.

A&L is where performing arts becomes accessible for every family in the Highlands. You don't need to change schools or make a major commitment to be part of this community. You book in for a term, experience the environment and teachers and can participate in various performances throughout the year.

Who A&L is for

A&L serves students from age 2 through to adults. There is no upper limit and no prior experience required to begin. Classes are grouped by age and ability, and progress naturally as students develop.

Whether a child is two years old and just curious about movement, a teenager training seriously with professional goals, or an adult who always wanted to come back to the barre — A&L has a class for them.

Classes at A&L

  • Our ballet program is grounded in French classical technique — the same foundational methodology used in TWC's full-time program. Students develop strength, discipline, and proper technique from their earliest classes. Vaganova and Balanchine approaches are incorporated as students progress.

  • Contemporary classes develop movement quality, spatial awareness, and artistic expression — broadening students beyond classical training and preparing them for a wider range of performance contexts.

  • A high-energy, technically grounded approach to hip hop, accessible to a range of ages and experience levels.

  • Song, dance, and performance combined — ideal for students drawn to the full stage experience.

  • For students interested in acting, devised work, and theatrical performance without the dance component.

  • A dedicated adult program for those returning to dance or beginning for the first time. Focused, warm, and genuinely welcoming of all starting points.

  • Where technique meets expression — lyrical training develops a dancer's ability to move with genuine feeling, connecting the precision of classical training to the emotional quality of performance.

  • Strength, control and spatial awareness developed through acrobatic movement — a complement to dance training that builds body confidence and physical capability across all styles.

  • High energy and technically demanding, jazz training develops rhythm, coordination and performance quality — a foundational style for any dancer working toward musical theatre or commercial performance.
